School's Out For Summer...Or Is It??

Students from 734 were recently asked what they thought about the possibility of having school throughout the entire calendar year. What was their answer?? A resounding NO! Here's what they had to say in more detail:

Why do we need school year round? We need the summer time to play and exercise. Schools are not even giving us recess except for like 5 or 10 minutes. We need the exercise. How will we be active and stay smart and follow our dreams like principals and teachers tell us to. This a bad idea. We need our time to go [from] place to place. We can also learn and discover other places and see sights and new people and discover their culture. That's why we need summer vacation. - Syed Rizvi

It is a bad and a good thing because if we don’t have school all year we can be with family and visit other families in different countries. It is a good thing because we can study and learn more new things to be successful. – Adilene Sanchez

We shouldn’t have school all year long because we wouldn’t get to play with our friends, and we would be really hot in class. The teachers would be hot too. Also, we couldn’t say “how was your summer” – Danya Espejo

All the work we do in school and all the suffereing and we can’t have summer!!!! These people must be insane. We are probably 7th graders one week, then the next week we’re going to be 8th graders it’s pretty weird. They’ll have a graduation on one day and the next day we’re 8th graders. It’s not really great because if we had a longer vacation we could relax from all the work we did. So I think this is not a good idea. –Christian Espinal

I think that we shouldn’t have school all year long because we don’t get quality time to spend with the family. And if you study too much, you may turn crazy. – Keiry Holguin

You need a summer vacation because [students] need a break because we are in school studying and learning every single day. School is nice to have but we need some time out at least. We couldn’t be doing work all the time. It is a bad idea and a good idea. It is bad because we have to be in school almost all day and it is a good thing because we can learn and study more fun things to know about. – Sandy Guaman

One reason why I need a summer vacation is that I need a vacation to relax my stressed brain. Another reason why I need a vacation is because I need to be with my family. The last reason is because I need a break from school. –Miriam Cardoza
